Color of the Year in the Home

Pantone’s Color of the year for 2024 is “13-1023 TCX Peach Fuzz.” Pantone – known as the global color authority — comes out with a color of the year annually, and this year has everyone abuzz with shades of peach. This hue is just one of 20,000 in their color library, and was chosen for its trendy look, as well as nurturing and warm, welcoming tones.

In a harsh world, soft and warm colors are the trend now, as they provide people with a sense of comfort. Peach is a big departure from 2023’s Color of the Year (COTY), Viva Magenta. 2024 marks the 25th anniversary of Pantone’s COTY unveiling—an event that happens every year and has been setting the standard for a variety of industries, such as interiors, fashion, and even packaging design.

Peach Fuzz works very well as a wall color, particularly in the bathroom. However, it also works well for accessories, from rugs to counter-top kitchen appliances. How can you incorporate Peach Fuzz into your home renovation designs?

Warmth in Home Design

Warm tones naturally cozy up and brighten spaces. The trend is moving away from whites and cool grays, which have been the go-to choice for many years now. Peach Fuzz and other warm tones will offer a homier ambiance.

Exploring a Range

While Peach Fuzz may be the official COTY, don’t go overboard with this hue in all aspects of your home design. Explore a range of warmer grays, reds, tans, and browns, with a broader palette that can be easily integrated into your home.

Blending Textures

Instead of focusing on full-on peach, blend a variety of textures and materials. Don’t worry: this blend won’t have you remembering the 80’s in horror as you recall the peach and mint green home décor trend of that decade. 2024’s blend offers a more nuanced approach, so go ahead and layer accessories, experiment with textures on things like throws and pillows, and use patterned rugs so you don’t overwhelm the space.

Timeless vs. Trendy

Timeless, trendy design places an emphasis on warm tones like peach. But instead of making Peach Fuzz the main actor in your living room story, give it more of a supporting role by incorporating key pieces (think: rugs or art) in a mix of colors to bring everything together.

Small Doses

In that vein, if you’re hesitant to make the full commitment to Peach Fuzz this year, introduce it slowly in smaller doses through a focal accessory instead. Paint is not only an affordable choice, it’s a reversible one as well. So, if you can’t fully embrace the trend just yet, experiment with accessories and paint.
